Betty arrives in Hollywood to pursue her dream of becoming an actress, but instead, she finds a mystery in the lost Rita, who has been in a car accident and suffers from amnesia. Together, they become detectives searching for Rita’s identity, embarking on a journey into a “wonderland” filled with both love and despair. The mysteries draw us in; we are led deeper into a strange world of masterful filmmaking and ultimately find a beautiful yet painful story about identity, illusion, and love.
This film is part of the program series Reruns. In this series, five of Kosmorama's employees have selected memorable cinema experiences from 2024. Head of film Mads Outzen has chosen Mulholland Drive.
"I have to admit I “cheated” a bit and took this opportunity to pay tribute to David Lynch and the film that turned my interest in cinema into an obsession. This film is always among my favorites every year since I watch it annually and never lose the sense of wonder and emotion that make it a masterpiece.
David Lynch passed away on January 15, 2025, at the age of 78, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most significant filmmakers in modern cinema history. With ten brilliant feature films, numerous short films and cinematic oddities, painting, music, and not least the greatest TV series of all time, Twin Peaks, he was an artistic and cultural giant—one who did things his own unique way. Kosmorama honors Lynch this year by screening Wild at Heart and Mulholland Drive."
