The very first Kosmorama film festival opened with a world premiere! Here's another chance for you to see Bent Hamer's fascinating Bukowski film on the big screen, as a celebration of the 20th Kosmorama.
Read moreFactotum is based on the American author Charles Bukowski's novel by the same name. The story revolves around Bukowski's alter ego, Henry Chinaski. He possesses versatile skills but also a strong inclination not to follow conventional standards and rules. His life consists of poorly paid jobs, life on the road, women, gambling addiction, and alcoholism.
This was the first English-language film that Bent Hamer made after his success with the Norwegian comedies Eggs (1995) and Salmer fra kjøkkenet (2003). Matt Dillon delivers a stellar performance as he portrays Bukowski's alter ego. The film's calm pace, in typical Hamer style, allows for visual richness and a subtle tone that is both humorous and serious at the same time.
