Eight women, all with different cultural backgrounds, register for a documentary video workshop course led by the young filmmaker Rona.
Read moreWith camera in hand, they depict their own everyday lives, sharing both the joys and challenges of their home lives. The course, which was ostensibly to learn about filmmaking, develops into a forum for unity, exploration and reflection on one's own life. There are significant contrasts between the lives of the eight women, not only cultural, but also economic and social.
Although Cinema Sabaya is not a documentary, it can almost be experienced as such. It portrays the relationship between the women with striking authenticity, thanks largely to highly credible acting performances. In addition, director Orit Fouks Rotem herself has held similar courses to that in the film, which has provided an important source of inspiration.
