Welcome to a special "knitting cinema" - screening at Kosmorama!
On Friday, March 21, at 11:00 we are hosting an additional screening of The Day Iceland Stood Still in Prinsen 3, where we will provide knitting-friendly lighting in the theater. Bring your knitting project and enjoy an extra cozy start to the day at Kosmorama.
Note: During this screening, knitting will only be allowed during the actual film. The 45 minutes of knitting and socialising before the screening is therefore not included in the event. However, everyone is more than welcome to visit our festival café in the foyer of Prinsen Cinema for socialising before and after the screening!
About the film:
In The Day Iceland Stood Still, we gain insight into what happened on October 24, 1975.
On that day, 90 percent of Icelandic women put down their work to demand equality, bringing the entire country to a standstill.
In the 1970s, Icelandic society was deeply rooted in traditional gender roles, and women had limited rights. They bore the primary responsibility for household chores and childcare, earned less than men for the same work, and often accessed many benefits only through marriage. Inspired by the global women's movement, Icelandic women decided that enough was enough.
Director Pamela Hogan and producer Hrafnhildur Gunnarsdóttir explore this historic event through archival footage, personal stories, and interviews, showcasing how the protest shaped Icelandic society in the years that followed.
