In the western United States during the 1860s, the headstrong Vivienne (Vicky Krieps) begins a relationship with Danish immigrant Holger Olsen (Viggo Mortensen). Together, they move into his remote and modest home in Nevada, where they start a life together. Soon, the Civil War separates them, and Vivienne must fend for herself in her new hometown, which is controlled by corrupt politicians and unscrupulous individuals. The film is a portrait of a modern and independent woman determined to defend herself in an unforgiving world dominated by ruthless men.

Til verdens ende (The Dead Don't Hurt) is written and directed by Viggo Mortensen. In addition to playing the male lead, he also produced the film and composed the music. The female lead, Vivienne, is played by the incomparable Vicky Krieps, known from Phantom Thread.
