Mandagsfilmen 23. October is Past Lives!
The costume drama that opened the Cannes film festival is about the courtesan Jeanne in the 1700's France. Jeanne uses all of her wit and beauty to climb the social hierarchy, and end up in Versaille with king Ludvig XV. Jeanne Bécu (played by director, Maïwenn) was born as the daughter of a poor seamstress in 1743. She grows up to become a working class woman hungry for culture and passion, and uses her intelligence and charm to climb to the highest levels of society. She becomes the favourite of King Ludvig the 15th (Johnny Depp), and his last official lover. They fall head over heels in love, and against all etiquette Jeanne moves to Versailles, where her relationship with the king is a scandal to the court. Jeanne du Barry is a romantic costume drama that along with the actors and score conveys the grandioseness of Versaille and the french royal family.
