The year is 1945, on the German island of Amrum. Hitler is dead, and Nanning’s mother collapses in grief. The twelve-year-old boy knows only one thing: he must help her. But in the final days of the war, the people around him finally dare to speak their minds. Torn between his love for his mother and a world that suddenly looks upon them with disgust, Nanning experiences what it means to carry a past he never chose.
