Is it possible to make a warm and humorous documentary about dementia? That is what Ragnhild Nøst Bergem has achieved in her first feature-length documentary. For several years, she’s followed three persons suffering from different types of dementia, all struggling with various challenges and symptoms related to the illness.
One struggles to find the words to create a sentence, yet manage to remember the lyrics of an entire song. Another has no problem with talking, but can’t remember where he put his razor machine. What they all have in common, is that they have friends and family who refuse to give up, even though their loved ones have gotten a diagnosis which can be challenging to deal with.
Although Loss and Love is about a sad illness, it’s also about the many bright spots in life such as presence, care and music.
Director Ragnhild Nøst Bergem and producer Camilla Vanebo will be present to introduce the screening Monday 20.30. There will be a Q&A after the screening.
