The middle-aged Lars from Steinkjer is travelling around Asia when he meets Abigail, a Filipino woman he wants to share his life with. However, on this day, things do not turn out as expected.
Director Johanna Pyykkö got the Idea for the film when she met a Filipino woman in her hometown who told her about Nordic men approaching her with prejudice. She told her that these men did not see her real personality. With The Manila Lover, Pyykkö has beautifully translated this idea to a film that challenges common misconceptions toward Filipino women.
This was the only short film from Norway in the International Critics' Week in Cannes last year.
