The Climb is an intelligent and refreshing indie comedy about two friends falling out because of a woman. This happens after one of them makes an upsetting confession while out biking. From here, the bicycle ride – and the film itself – becomes a demonstration of destructive friendship. Sharp dialogue and perfect timing from the actors make it hard not to laugh, while the high cinematic ambitions make this film debut a visually pleasing experience.
The main characters, Michael and Kyle, are namesakes with the actors who portray them – Michael Angelo Covino and Kyle Marvin. The two actors also wrote the script together, so it’s tempting to speculate whether the film is based on real-life events.
