The Charmer is a psychological drama about Iranian Esmail, who has applied for permanent residency in Denmark. He desperately needs to find a Danish girlfriend so that he can stay in the country. As time starts running out, Esmail unexpectedly falls in love with a young woman, and his past starts to catch up with him. Director Milad Alami is born in Iran, grew up in Sweden and lives in Denmark. He has previously been internationally praised for his short films and The Charmer is Alami's feature film debut. The film won the film critics' award at San Sebastian's World Premiere, and has won awards at a number of other festivals in the course of the last year.
