A former Israelian soldier moves to Paris and does everything he can to disassociate himself from his roots. Wanting to become French, he carries a dictionary from which he continually recites. Despite his efforts, he soon discovers that nationality is more than language and that escaping from one’s past isn’t easy. With a touch of the unexpected, Synonyms is a sharp and witty portrayal of identity and nationality.
Navid Lapad has written and directed a beautiful and fiery film offering a satirical perspective on military culture and masculinity. A main competitor during the Berlin International Film Festival, Synonyms won both the Golden Bear for Best Film and the International Federation of Film Critics Award.
