On the Basis of Sex is a biographical court drama about American supreme court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, on her way to becoming America’s second female supreme court justice. On a dinner at Harvard at the start of the semester in the 1950s, all the female law-students are asked to explain why they are choosing to take up at spot at the school that could have gone to a man. This is just the start of the prejudices these women will meet on their way into a male-dominated profession, and some of what laid the foundation of Ginsburg’s life long battle for equality. On the Basis of Sex tells the inspiring, true story of how she and her husband lead a groundbreaking case that would change America’s legal history for ever. The case was the start of a battle against laws that discriminate on the basis of sex.
Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) plays the lead role as Ruth Bader Ginsburg herself, and Armie Hammer (Call Me by your Name) takes on the role as her husband Martin D. Ginsburg.
