Audun is sick of modern life and moves from Trondheim to the jungle in Indonesia to live with one of the world’s last remaining traditional societies. On his search for a simpler life, he discovers the difficulty of escaping the modern world. His picture of the pristine jungle life is at odds with the society’s desire for renewal. The tribe’s leader, Aman Paksa, is torn between two worlds that turn out to be difficult to combine.
Filmmaker Audun Amundsen followed the traditional society for over 14 years, and Newtopia gives a unique insight into how tribal communities adapt to modern life. Today Amundsen is a member of The Explorers Club, in company with renowned names such as Roald Amundsen and Neil Armstrong.
Filmmaker Audun Amundsen will be present at the regional premiere screening Wednesday 20.30.
