Citizen K gives you a brushing-up of Russia’s recent history, described by one of those who played a central part when the Soviet Union fell, and communism was replaced by turbo-capitalism. For many years, Mikhail Khodorkovsky was part of Putin’s inner circle as one of the seven oligarchs whose role in the state privatisations of the 1990s helped to transform the country’s economy. Later, he fell into disfavour of the government and served 10 years in Siberian camp for tax evasion. Khodorkovsky now lives in London, supporting the opposition in his home country as one of Putin’s fiercest critics.
