Amy is an intimate portrait of the gifted singer Amy Winehouse, directed by Asif Kapadia. Her childhood, adolescence and rise to fame are depicted through archive clips, paparazzi photographs, as well as interviews with those who were close to her. Amy’s music moved a whole generation and continues to do so. She’s often compared to celebrated artists such as Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald and is considered one of the U.K.’s most significant music icons of all time.
Despite her magnificent voice and eventful career, Amy struggled with drug and alcohol addiction. The documentary shows her extraordinary life from beginning to end and gives us an insight into what was going on behind the scenes. Amy Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning in July 2011, at the age of 27.
At its release in 2015, Amy soon became one of the most-seen documentaries in cinemas in the U.K. The film received critical acclaim, winning the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2016.
The screening will be introduced by Bjørnar Bruket from Rockheim - the National Museum of Popular Music in Norway.
