About Endlessness explores both the multitudes and fragilities of life through people who’re struggling with life’s big questions. With a series of tightly composed tableaus with ghostlike characters and a fascinating richness of detail, the film is in line with director Roy Andersson’s cinematic universe. The dreamlike narrative voice takes us from one tableau to the next, which together form a kaleidoscope of the existence and eternity.
Andersson is one of the most interesting, characteristic and challenging directors in Europe today. He’s known for his subtle, often absurd stories of everyday people in films such as A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence (2014), You, the Living (2007) and Songs from the Second Floor (2000). Andersson won the Silver Lion for directing for About Endlessness at the Venice Film Festival in 2019.
