This year's culinary cinema at Bula is Wild at Heart!

Kosmorama and Bula have teamed up once again to offer a culinary film experience during the festival week in 2025. This year, the film choice landed on David Lynch's Wild at Heart. Here, you can read more about why Reneé Fagerhøi, General Manager at Bula Neobistro, chose this particular film!

Within the vast world of film genres, "Outlaw couples" might just be my absolute favorite. It’s a genre brimming with delicious drama and intensity, and this year, I want to highlight a personal favorite: Wild at Heart by David Lynch, from 1990.

The first thing that drew me in was the cover. Nicolas Cage and Laura Dern, tightly embraced against a blazing backdrop – that iconic image practically screams intense passion and danger. Love and chaos – I can never get enough of that!

This film ticks all the boxes for me: it's full of clichés, raw love, dark humor, and countless references – all while carrying a constant sense of escape. I adore the over-the-top, "in your face" aesthetic. It comes at you from every angle. It’s intense, sometimes bordering on melodrama, but always with something simmering beneath the surface. After all, this is David Lynch.

Nicolas Cage: sweaty hair, a snakeskin jacket, and an Elvis-esque rendition of Love Me Tender. It’s electric – like a 90s cocktail of Elvis and our modern-day crooner, Nick Cave. Laura Dern, clad in a leather bikini, with big hair and red lips, practically devours this performance with her gaze. It’s pure art.

And let’s not forget the music.
Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game, Gene Vincent’s Be-Bop-a-Lula, Baby Please Don’t Go, and, of course, more Elvis.
The soundtrack alone is worth the film.

At Bula, we’ve brought Lynch’s unique style and atmosphere into the kitchen. The dishes this evening will be as eclectic and playful as the film – with flavors designed to surprise, challenge, and delight. Expect the unexpected, just like in Wild at Heart. And yes, it will be sexy!
