About the films:

Jean de Florette
Marcel Pagnol is one of France’s most beloved authors. Jean de Florette, his greatest work, is set in the Provence of the 1920s and its breathtaking landscapes. Into this idyllic setting comes the hunchback Jean de Florette from the city, hoping to create a new Eden with his wife and young daughter. But the local landowner, Papet, plans to steal the property from him. Secretly, he diverts the spring that supplies water to Jean’s farm, forcing him to walk miles to fetch water. As the crops wither in the heat, Jean is driven ever closer to the brink of madness and ruin.

This is the story of the individual against overwhelming forces, of good versus evil, of life versus death—told with such power, beauty, and emotional depth that it leaves no one untouched.

Manon of the Spring
Here, Marcel Pagnol’s great tale of Provence continues. Ten years have passed since Jean de Florette’s death. Ugolin and Papet, the men responsible for his downfall, now revel in their wealth. Meanwhile, Jean’s daughter Manon has grown into a captivating young woman, living in the mountains with her goats.

One glance is enough to leave a man obsessed, as happens when Ugolin sees her bathing naked in a spring. But Manon uncovers the crime committed by Ugolin and Papet and sets in motion a diabolical revenge that threatens not only to destroy them, but the entire community. At the same time, the truth about who Jean de Florette really was comes to light—a secret that will shock everyone, especially Manon herself.
