Candelaria is a drama starring an old married couple who is lured in to production of pornographic movies. The film reinvents the story about Cuba by not resorting to nostalgia or political argumentation. Different sides of living in Cuba is shown in a way that is surprising and provocative.
The Jury is led by the Iranian director Samira Makhmalbaf, who notes the remarkable cast and that the film takes unexpected turns while being ful of social engagement.
«The reception in Venezia is overwhelming», says Dag Hoel. «I’m here with the Cuban leading roles, Veronica Lynn and Alden Knight. They are Venezias most popular couple today. The award is opening the world for Candelaria, but only time will tell if the Cuban government will allow the film to be shown in Cuba.
Kosmorama is at least very excited to see the film!
