Film Summer with Kosmorama – Week 27

Every Friday this summer we will recommend different available movies you may enjoy, late summer nights. We introduce 4 films every week and promise several great film moments!

This week we travel to the US, Rwanda, Indonesia – and Robot City.  

SPOTLIGHT (TOM MCCARTHY, 2015)

Spotlight is based on the true story about the journalists who uncovered a huge scandal in the Catholic church. The story takes place in Boston in the early 2000’s where the Boston Globe’s Spotlight team discovers that the Catholic church has systematically covered up sexual abuse of children by the church’s priests. The discovery had a huge impact across the world, even here in Trondheim, and the film hails investigative journalism and its role as watchdog.

Spotlight has received 115 awards including an Oscar for Best Motion Picture of the Year and Best Writing, Original Screenplay.

Munyuranagabo has been celebrated at film festivals across the globe and is a unique film about Sangwa and Ngabo who’s friendship is tested when they meet Sangwa’s family and discover that Ngabo is a Tutsie. The story is set in a country that’s still healing after the trauma of the Rwandan genocide.

The Look of Silence is Joshua Oppenheimer’s second documentary dealing with the Indonesian Mass Killings that took place in 1965 and 1966. In The Act of Killing from 2012 he challenges former leaders of the death squads to reenact the mass killings they were a part of in any way they want. In The Look of Silence we follow Adi Rukun as he confronts the people who were behind the mass killings in his community and who brutally murdered his older brother Ramli. The stories are shocking but do they feel any remorse?
